Cartridge filters use a polyester cellular media to filter the water, unlike sand filters. A cartridge filter is effective because it catches and filters out even very fine particles. There is no backwashing or rinsing required, as is necessary with sand filtration systems. It's easy to set up, too. Users simply plug in the filter, open the bleed valve on top of the filter tank to release trapped air, and let the filter run. The 200 square foot filter can sometimes run for the entire duration of a swimming pool season without being cleaned. The system will let you know when it's time to clean it, as the water flow returning back to the pool will slows to a trickle. It should also be cleaned at the end of the season, or in the spring before opening the pool. The cartridge filter elements can last up to 3 years if they are maintained properly. Take the easy road of pool cleaning and maintenance.

Cleaning the Cartridge Element
Cleaning the filter is simply a matter of removing the filter and taking it to a "self-serve" car wash. Pressure wash the filter from the inside out first. Then spray the loosened debris down and out of the individual pleats. If the pool is full of water, it will be necessary to plug the skimmer and return to keep from losing water.
