You don’t stay in business for over a century without learning a thing or two. Telescope Casual has learned plenty; like how to design and manufacturer some of the most attractive, durable, and inspired casual patio furniture on the market.
Telescope Cot Bed & Novelty Company started out in New York City by manufacturing, you guessed it, cots, along with camp stools. These pieces had “telescoping” legs; hence the name Telescope. The company grew, added to its lines, and by 1932 Telescope found it necessary and expedient to relocate to Granville, NY where they can still be found today.
Telescope is housed in a nearly one million square foot facility where you will find their research, development, engineering and manufacturing processes. Keeping it all in the family since its inception, Telescope is currently managed by 4th and 5th generations. Telescope remains unique among the many, many, many patio furniture manufacturers and distributors today; they can be competitive in an import-driven marketplace because they are so self-sufficient.
Telescope attributes their continued success in business to a “talented and skilled work force.” Their emphasis is on providing the highest levels of Quality, Design, Comfort, Selection and Fast/Consistent Delivery. Telescope is understandably proud of their reputation and remains dedicated to being an industry pioneer while maintaining superior quality and customer service.
Let’s take a closer look at what Telescope Casual has to offer. One of their more recent and incredibly successful innovations is their line of MGP (Marine Grade Polymer) furniture. The beauty of MGP is that it is designed specifically for water exposure. This means it doesn’t swell, rot, warp, splinter, break down or fade in the rain and sun. Telescope partnered with a Floridian company who manufactures MGP for marine products. This heavy, 100% recyclable material is trucked up to New York where Telescope routers it into appropriate shapes. In Telescope’s MGP line, I am a huge fan of the Leeward. The Leeward is a strong, solid, beautifully rendered Mission style collection which offers deep seating and dining, in both cushion and sling seat versions. The Leeward Cushion Collection is so comfortable that I can’t do it justice with words; the cushions are deep, plush, sink-in-and-sigh, Sunday afternoon napping, don’t-wake-me -up -for-football amazing.
The St. Catherine Cushion Collection offers a more feminine, curvy appeal than the Leeward, while still maintaining those MGP super-powers. While I have never sat on, or rather, in, any of these pieces, I think it is a safe assumption that the St. Catherine offers the comfort of the Leeward, since it also features Telescope’s over the top cushions.
Speaking of those cushions, did I mention that every cushion Telescope offers is completely customizable? They have a huge assortment of designer, waterproof fabrics (featuring Sunbrella) that will allow you to be as creative or as conservative as you like in your outdoor décor.
Telescope has also used their MGP material to update an old classic, the Adirondack Chair. No cushion necessary, this freshly rebooted American chair takes on new life with Telescope’s state of the art technology and finishing. The Adirondack is also available in a sling version; you get the same style with the added bonus of a softer seat. Again, this line is customizable, with your choice of frame colors and fabrics.
A completely modern version of Telescope’s MGP line can be found in the Avant. The Avant is a hybrid, featuring an MGP seat paired with aluminum legs. This chic set offers a smaller scale perfect for smaller spaces; it is also contract furniture, which means it is appropriate for commercial settings like cafes and bistros, so you know it is built to last. FYI Telescope carries a full line of contract furniture.
Another aluminum-MGP hybrid with an entirely different look is the Belle Isle. The Belle Isle is graceful and versatile; it features an aluminum frame with MGP armrests. The Belle Isle also comes with a coordinating dining collection.
Telescope carries other furniture that does not feature MGP in any way. Their line-up includes tubular aluminum, cast aluminum and wicker.
The Villa Sling Collection offers up a traditional look with American-sized proportions. It is constructed with both tubular and wrought aluminum frames that are rust and weatherproof. The Villa can be customized with your choice of Telescope’s sling fabrics; they also offer a padded sling option for added comfort.
The Ashbee Sectional Deep Seating Collection is another lightweight but heavy-duty aluminum collection. The Ashbee is contemporary and completely versatile; this sectional style seating can be configured in the size and shape that suits you and your outdoor space.
If you are in the market for new patio furniture, take a long look at Telescope! Trust that century of expertise to provide some of the most beautiful, comfortable and durable patio furniture around.
