Installing an inground pool is a significant home improvement project that involves multiple steps, specialized equipment, and coordination between various contractors. Here is an overview of how to install an inground pool:
Design and Permits
- Choose a Pool Type: Select from vinyl liner or fiberglass. Each material has its own pros and cons in terms of cost, durability, and design flexibility.
- Design the Pool: Work with us to design the shape, size, depth, and features of your pool. Make sure it fits your backyard’s space and landscaping.
- Obtain Permits: Before installation, you’ll need to obtain the required permits from your local government. This process ensures that your pool meets building codes and safety regulations.
Excavation
- Mark the Area: The installation team will mark the area where the pool will go. You should have utilities located and marked beforehand to avoid any damage.
- Excavation: Heavy equipment like an excavator is used to dig the hole where the pool will be installed. The depth and shape will follow the pool design plan.
- Soil Removal: Excess soil is typically removed from the site or repurposed elsewhere in the yard, depending on your plans.
Installing the Pool Structure
- Vinyl Liner Pools: Steel or polymer walls are constructed in the excavated hole, and the vinyl liner is custom-fitted to this structure. Once installed, the liner is secured, and a bottom layer is prepared with sand or a similar material to ensure a smooth surface.
- Fiberglass Pools: The fiberglass shell is pre-made and delivered to your site. It’s lowered into the excavated area by a crane, and the plumbing and filtration systems are installed.
Plumbing and Electrical
- Install Plumbing: Water lines, skimmers, drains, and return jets are connected to the pool. A qualified plumber will ensure that the filtration and pump systems are properly installed.
- Electrical Setup: An electrician installs the pool's lighting, pump system, and any other electrical components such as heaters or automation systems.
Backfill
- Once the pool structure is in place, the area around the pool is backfilled with soil or gravel to ensure the pool is stable. This step helps prevent shifting or settling over time.
Decking and Land
- Pool Deck: The deck around the pool is installed next. Popular materials include concrete, pavers, or stone. This area serves as a space for lounging, walking, or adding poolside features like furniture or umbrellas.
- Landscaping: Once the deck is installed, landscaping around the pool completes the overall look. Plants, fencing, and additional outdoor features are often added to enhance privacy and aesthetics.
